Lower Mainland warehouse process moves forward

Yesterday BCGEU Component 5 – Retail Stores and Warehouse – members at the Vancouver Distribution Centre were informed that the government has identified a potential location for an interim warehouse to replace the current warehouse for a five-year period.

In order to finalize the plan, government has issued a Notice of Intent outlining the specifications needed for their temporary warehouse. This notice allows any individuals with warehouse space that meets the LDB’s requirements to submit an alternative proposal.

On January 30, 2017, the Notice of Intent will expire. If no viable alternative has been forthcoming, the current plan will be finalized and the LDB will release details on the new warehouse soon thereafter.

Your Component 5 executive is committed to providing additional information as it becomes available.

At this point, your union has received no additional details on the location of the site that the LDB has proposed. And once we receive more concrete information, we will continue to advocate for the best possible outcome for BCGEU members at the LDB.

Generally, we have been informed that once a decision is made, build-out and site setup will take place over a series of months, and eventually the entire operation of the Vancouver Distribution Centre will be transferred to the new location. This does not include LDB Headquarters operations. The interim warehouse will be operational for a five-year period while a permanent location is identified. These changes will have no effect on operations at the Kamloops Distribution Centre.

Thank you,

Kimberlee MacGregor
