Our health system depends on the professional work of thousands of medical laboratory technologists throughout the province. From blood samples to urine tests to tissue biopsies – laboratory medicine is a critical part of sustaining high quality health care, and millions of laboratory tests are performed in Canada every week.
The 2017 observance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Week emphasizes the essential role of these specialists who, as valuable members of BC’s health care team, provide laboratory test results that are vital to the diagnosis and treatment of illness and disease.
"We encourage all British Columbians to recognize the important work of medical laboratory technologists who deliver quality health care services every day in this province," said Sherry Ogasawara, Vice President of the Health Services component of the BCGEU. “Medical Laboratory Professionals Week is a time to say thank you to our members for their dedication and their vital contributions to BC’s health care system. We are proud to represent them!”
Medical Laboratory Professionals Week runs from April 16 to 22, 2017. BCGEU proudly represents hundreds of lab workers at worksites including LifeLabs, JR Silliker, IDEXX and Maxxam.
